Tragic Incident: 8-Year-Old Georgia Girl Fatally Struck by Car While Boarding School Bus

ATLANTA (WANF/Gray News) – The family of an 8-year-old Georgia girl, who tragically lost her life after being hit by a car while boarding her school bus, is devastated by this heart-wrenching incident.

The Georgia State Patrol has confirmed the untimely death of the young girl on Saturday, as reported by WANF.

According to state troopers, the unfortunate incident took place on Thursday morning in Henry County when the 8-year-old was attempting to cross Jackson Lake Road to board her school bus. Tragically, she was struck by a Ford Fusion. Immediately, she was flown to Egleston Children’s Hospital in Atlanta, where she was admitted in a critical condition.

Investigations have revealed that at the time of the accident, the school bus had its stop sign deployed and red flashing lights activated, indicating to drivers that they should stop. Shockingly, the driver of the Ford Fusion, identified as 25-year-old Kaylee Andre, allegedly ignored these warning signs.

As a consequence, Andre was apprehended and subsequently booked in Henry County Jail. She now faces charges of first-degree homicide by vehicle, failure to stop for a school bus loading and unloading, and failure to exercise due care.

The local community, along with acquaintances of the young victim, have expressed their grief and support by placing flowers at a makeshift memorial on Jackson Lake Road.

Jeff Lockridge, a neighbor who also has a daughter of his own, empathetically said, “My heart goes out to the family.” Lockridge further expressed his frustration with drivers who frequently exceed the speed limit on this road. He added, “All the time. They don’t care. If you’re going to be late to work, call in and inform them. It’s not that significant. Your workplace will understand. They would rather have you arrive five minutes late than risk someone’s life.”

The State Troopers are still conducting a thorough investigation into this heart-wrenching incident.
