Tragedy Strikes as 8-Year-Old Girl Fatally Struck by Car While Boarding School Bus in Georgia

ATLANTA (WANF/Gray News) – The family of a young 8-year-old girl from Georgia is left heartbroken and devastated following her tragic death after she was hit by a car while attempting to board her school bus.

The Georgia State Patrol has confirmed the unfortunate demise of the young girl, as reported by WANF. The incident occurred on Saturday when the girl was attempting to cross Jackson Lake Road in Henry County to board her school bus. However, tragedy struck when a Ford Fusion collided with her. The young victim was immediately airlifted to Egleston Children’s Hospital in Atlanta, where she was admitted in critical condition.

According to investigators, the school bus had activated its stop sign and red flashing lights at the time of the accident, indicating that other drivers should stop. However, the driver of the Ford Fusion, identified as 25-year-old Kaylee Andre, reportedly failed to heed these warning signs, resulting in the tragic incident. Andre was subsequently apprehended and booked into Henry County Jail, facing charges of first-degree homicide by vehicle, failure to stop for a school bus loading and unloading, and failure to exercise due care.

The local community, along with those who were acquainted with the young victim, have come together to express their condolences and support for her family. A makeshift memorial has been set up on Jackson Lake Road, where neighbors and sympathizers have placed flowers in remembrance of the young girl.

Jeff Lockridge, a neighbor deeply affected by the incident, shared his heartfelt condolences, saying, “My heart goes out to the family.” As a father himself, Lockridge also expressed his frustration with reckless drivers speeding down the road, stating, “They don’t care. If you’re going to be late to work, call in and tell them. It isn’t that big of a deal. Your work will understand. They’d rather you be five minutes late than kill somebody.”

The State Patrol continues to investigate the tragic incident, aiming to gather all the necessary information and determine the circumstances that led to this heartbreaking loss of life.
