Stafford County Man Found Dead in Fredericksburg

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — The Fredericksburg Police Department has confirmed that a Stafford County man who had been missing since January 24 has been found dead in Fredericksburg.

The body of 22-year-old Darius Appiah was discovered on Saturday in Hazel Run, near the intersection of Blue and Grey Parkway and Lafayette Boulevard. Appiah’s car had been found in Fredericksburg’s Alum Spring Park shortly after his disappearance.

The Fredericksburg Police Department has taken Appiah’s body to the medical examiner’s office for an autopsy to determine the cause of death. They are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding his death.

On Saturday morning, Fredericksburg police received a report about a body found in Hazel Run. In response, police officers, the Fredericksburg Fire Department, and the Rescue Squad rushed to the area. The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office also provided assistance.

At approximately 1:50 p.m., the body was recovered from the creek and identified as Darius Appiah, who had been reported missing by the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office on January 25. Appiah’s next of kin was notified later that afternoon.

The Fredericksburg Police Department expressed their condolences to Appiah’s family and friends, who had been tirelessly searching for him since his disappearance.

Following his disappearance, the Virginia State Police, in collaboration with the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office, classified Appiah as an “at-risk/missing person.” A critically missing adult alert was issued by the State Police on January 26.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about Appiah’s death or any details leading up to his disappearance to contact the police at 540-373-3122. Anonymous tips can also be sent by texting “FPDtip” followed by the tip to “847-411”.
