Burglary Suspect Fatally Shot by Officer in Hamburg, New York

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — The woman who was shot and killed by a Hamburg police officer on Friday has been identified as 36-year-old Lisa Haight of Jamestown, according to the Hamburg police.

The incident occurred at approximately 11 a.m. when officers responded to a reported burglary on Willet Road. The victim informed the police that Haight had broken into her home and then fled into the nearby woods.

Police later discovered that Haight had broken into a second residence on McKinley Parkway. When officers encountered her in the bathroom of the house, a physical altercation ensued, leading to the officer firing his weapon and striking Haight. Despite immediate first aid efforts by the officers, Haight was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities also confirmed that prior to the shooting, Haight was involved in a separate incident where she repeatedly stabbed a passenger in a van traveling on I-90. The victim sustained serious injuries to their face, shoulder, and head. Haight exited the van shortly before committing the first burglary.

As a result of the shooting, McKinley Parkway was closed between Lake Avenue and Willet Road for several hours on Friday. The roads have since been reopened.

The Hamburg police stated that they are currently working on providing a comprehensive overview of the investigation and events surrounding the incident. An update is expected to be released on Tuesday.
