Vermont State Police Investigate Late-Night Shooting at Residence in Georgia

GEORGIA — Vermont State Police are currently investigating a late-night shooting incident that occurred at a residence on Sand Hill Road, leaving one man critically wounded.

The incident took place when 75-year-old homeowner Gordon Richard Sr. reported an attempted home invasion by three armed individuals on Tuesday around 11:35 p.m.

According to reports, Richard bravely defended his home using a muzzleloader rifle and managed to shoot one of the intruders, identified as 39-year-old Paul E. Brown from Milton and St. Albans. After securing the door, Richard swiftly contacted the authorities for assistance.

Upon their arrival, troopers discovered Brown injured in a neighboring yard, presumably as a consequence of the gunshot wound.

Brown was promptly transported to Northwestern Medical Center and later transferred to the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington. As of Wednesday afternoon, he remains in critical condition, receiving medical care.

Throughout the day, law enforcement officers have been diligently executing a search warrant at the residence, conducting interviews, and pursuing various leads to gather essential evidence.

Gordon Richard Sr., the homeowner, has fully cooperated with the ongoing investigation, providing valuable information to aid the police in their inquiries.

At present, no arrests have been made, and no charges have been filed in relation to the incident.

The authorities are particularly interested in obtaining information regarding the whereabouts of Richard’s 40-year-old son, Matthew, as they believe he may have relevant insights connected to the investigation.
