Tragic Accident in Willmar Results in death of Pedestrian

In a heartbreaking incident that occurred on the night of January 22, a pedestrian was struck by a car in Willmar, Minnesota. Unfortunately, the 41-year-old victim, identified as Elvis Gonzalez of New London, passed away from his injuries two days later.

The Willmar Police Chief, Jim Felt, released a statement on Wednesday confirming Gonzalez’s death. The news release also mentioned that Gonzalez had been airlifted to CentraCare – St. Cloud Hospital with serious injuries.

According to the preliminary investigation conducted by Willmar police, the accident took place on 19th Avenue Southeast. Gonzalez and another pedestrian, a 37-year-old female from Willmar, were walking along the edge of the roadway around 10:30 p.m. They crossed in front of a westbound 2014 Ford Fusion that was in the turning lane to go south on Ninth Street Southeast.

The driver of the car, a 19-year-old male from Willmar, did not sustain any injuries and fully cooperated with the investigation. The female pedestrian was transported by ambulance to CentraCare – Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar with moderate injuries.

Gonzalez, on the other hand, was first taken to the hospital in Willmar by CentraCare Ambulance before being airlifted to St. Cloud. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, he tragically succumbed to his injuries on January 24.

Authorities at the scene of the accident were assisted by various departments including the Kandiyohi County Rescue Squad, Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office, Willmar Fire Department, and the Minnesota State Patrol. The investigation into the crash is still ongoing.
