Gill, who currently holds the position of Senior Vice President, Capital Markets, at his company, HPC, has an extensive background in financial services. He previously served as Chief of Staff to Former U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission Chairman Christopher Giancarlo and Chief Operating Officer of the agency. The suspect, Artell Cunningham, is accused of a series of carjackings that began on January 29. He first approached an occupied vehicle parked on K Street, Northwest, and shot the male driver before fleeing the scene. Cunningham then attempted to carjack another vehicle at the intersection of 5th and K Street, Northeast, but was unsuccessful. He later approached a man and a woman in the 300 block of N Street, Northeast, demanding their car keys. When they refused, Cunningham shot the man and fled the scene in their vehicle. The victim, Alberto Vasquez Jr., later died from his injuries.

Cunningham’s crime spree continued as he committed two additional carjackings in Prince George’s County. While driving a stolen vehicle on I-295 northbound, he began shooting at a police cruiser, but no officers were injured. The suspect then had an interaction with members of the New Carrollton Police Department, leading to an officer-involved shooting. Cunningham was shot and pronounced dead at a local hospital.

The Metropolitan Police Department assures the community that there is no ongoing threat. They extend their gratitude to the officers, detectives, and law enforcement partners involved in the case.
