A 32-year-old man has been apprehended by the authorities in relation to an attempted carjacking and two arson fires that occurred in Pasadena. The Pasadena Fire Department and the Pasadena Police Department swiftly responded to the Dream Church located in the 1300 block of East Colorado Boulevard on January 20th at approximately 6 a.m. Firefighters discovered evidence of two separate fires that had already burned out inside the church upon their arrival. Consequently, the Verdugo Fire Investigation Task Force and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives launched an arson investigation. Lt. Keith Gomez of the Pasadena Police Department provided these details.

After reviewing surveillance footage, detectives established that the fires were intentionally started on January 19th around 9 p.m. by a male suspect. The suspect has been identified as Michael Monzon. The Pasadena Police Department confirmed Monzon’s involvement in the incidents.

Additionally, it was determined that Monzon was also responsible for an attempted carjacking, which occurred in the 1800 block of East Colorado Boulevard on January 21st at approximately 3:25 a.m. This incident took place at a gas station, where Monzon tried unsuccessfully to steal the victim’s vehicle. He managed to escape the scene before the arrival of law enforcement officers.

Approximately four hours later, both the Pasadena police and fire departments received a report of a fire in the 1100 block of East Colorado Boulevard, near Lake Avenue. The incident occurred at 7 a.m. in a parking lot situated behind a business. Fortunately, the fire was promptly extinguished and classified as suspicious.
