The heartbroken parents of Breonna Moffett, one of the three American soldiers killed in a drone strike in Jordan, have revealed that she was on her first tour of duty. Moffett’s family paid tribute to the 23-year-old on Monday after she died in an Iranian-backed blast on the base near the Syrian border over the weekend. They described her as “loud, loving, and always there for everybody.”

In an interview with CNN’s Abby Philips, Francine and Bernard Moffett shared their memories of their late daughter. They mentioned that Moffett had been nervous about her first foreign deployment but was proud to serve in the military. Her mother said, “She had mixed feelings and didn’t know what to expect.” However, Moffett had plans to re-enlist and was honored to serve her country.

Moffett’s death, along with two other Americans, occurred during a deadly suicide drone attack on Saturday. The Biden administration is reportedly considering revenge strikes on Iranian targets across the Middle East in response to the attack.

The parents described the moment they learned of their daughter’s passing when military officials knocked on their door. “It was extremely rough,” said Moffett’s father. “We didn’t hear of the attack until after we were notified. We were getting ready for church, and they let us know that it was our baby.”

Breonna Moffett, a US Army Reservist from Savannah, Georgia, enlisted in the Army Reserve in 2019 and deployed in August 2023. Her decision to join the military was influenced by her mother’s military background. Francine Moffett mentioned that her daughter became the second female in the family to join the military and that she was proud of her.

The Pentagon confirmed that the victims were likely in bed at the time of the attack. The three soldiers were assigned to the 718th Engineer Company, a US Army Reserve unit based out of Fort Moore, Georgia. Deputy Press Secretary Sabrina Singh stated, “What was different about this attack is where it landed. It did impact where the living quarters were, and I believe it was pretty early morning, so people were actually in their beds when the drone impacted.”

The Chief of Army Reserve, Lt. Gen. Jody J. Daniels, expressed condolences on behalf of the US Army Reserve. “The loss of Sergeant William J. Rivers, Specialist Breonna A. Moffett, and Specialist Kennedy L. Sanders has left an indelible mark on the United States Army Reserve,” Daniels said. “Their service and sacrifice will not be forgotten, and we are committed to supporting those left behind in the wake of this tragedy.”

The drone attack on the US outpost near the Syria-Jordan border resulted in at least 34 other injuries. President Biden condemned the attack, stating, “While we are still gathering the facts of this attack, we know it was carried out by radical Iran-backed militant groups operating in Syria and Iraq.” He praised the fallen soldiers for their bravery and commitment to the fight against terrorism.

Iran has been known to support various militant groups in the region, including Hezbollah and Shia militant groups. The country has used proxy groups to carry out attacks and shield itself from accountability. Additionally, Iran has been involved in conflicts in Iraq and Syria, with its Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps-Qods Force funding terrorist organizations.

The tragic loss of Breonna Moffett and her fellow soldiers serves as a reminder of the dangers faced by military personnel serving abroad. Their sacrifice will be remembered, and their families will be supported as they navigate this difficult time..
