Second Arrest Made in Investigation of Kansas Teen Deaths

SEDGWICK COUNTY — Law enforcement authorities in Sedgwick County are continuing their investigation into the tragic deaths of two teenagers in Wichita, Kansas. After making the initial arrest of a 14-year-old suspect, the Wichita Police Department has now apprehended an 18-year-old individual identified as Hayden Rydell Williams of Wichita, in connection with the case.

The incident began unfolding on Friday night when the Wichita Police Department responded to reports of gunshots in the area of 5200 E Kensington. Officer Juan Rebolledo confirmed the incident, indicating that officers were also dispatched to a nearby hospital following reports of two shooting victims seeking medical attention.

Tragically, Emoni Shears, 14, and Jhiquez Roberts, 19, both residents of Wichita, succumbed to their injuries and were pronounced dead at the hospital. The Wichita Police Department wasted no time in launching a thorough investigation, with detectives and patrol officers actively pursuing leads and gathering evidence.

On Saturday, a 14-year-old suspect from Wichita was taken into custody on charges of felony murder and juvenile possession of a firearm. However, the investigation did not stop there. On Tuesday afternoon, the Wichita Police Department Violent Crimes Team successfully located and apprehended Hayden Rydell Williams, an 18-year-old individual from Wichita.

According to the Sedgwick County arrest report, Williams is currently being held on charges of First Degree murder and parole violations. The online jail records confirm the requested charges against him.
