According to the authorities at the Ballard County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy conducted a routine traffic stop in the parking lot of the Wickliffe Dollar General store on Sunday, January 28, at approximately 3:45 p.m.

The deputy approached the vehicle and instructed the driver, identified as 22-year-old Chaz Bradshaw from Cairo, Illinois, to return to his car. Bradshaw complied with the deputy’s request.

During the encounter, the deputy requested Bradshaw’s driver’s license, which Bradshaw claimed was in his car. He then proceeded to retrieve it.

As the deputy accompanied Bradshaw to his car, a handgun in plain view on the driver’s seat caught the deputy’s attention.

Alarmed by the discovery, the deputy urged Bradshaw to step out of the vehicle. However, Bradshaw defiantly sat on the gun and refused to comply with the deputy’s instructions.

A struggle ensued between Bradshaw and the deputy, during which Bradshaw managed to break free and return to his car.

In a shocking turn of events, as the deputy attempted to enter his own vehicle, Bradshaw suddenly accelerated in reverse at a high speed directly towards the officer.

Fortunately, the quick reflexes of the deputy allowed him to evade the oncoming car and avoid a potentially fatal collision.

Following the incident, Bradshaw hastily fled the scene, leaving the deputy behind.

Authorities later discovered Bradshaw’s abandoned vehicle concealed under a tarp behind a residence in Cairo, Illinois.

On the following day, Bradshaw surrendered himself to law enforcement officials in Illinois.

Bradshaw was subsequently transported to the Ballard County Detention Center in Kentucky, where he was charged with attempted murder of a police officer, assault in the third degree of a police officer, criminal mischief in the first degree, fleeing or evading police in the first degree, a speeding violation of 8 mph over the speed limit, resisting arrest, and reckless driving.

As per the online records of the detention center, Bradshaw is currently being held without bond.

The investigation and subsequent arrest involved the collaborative efforts of various law enforcement agencies, including the Kentucky State Police, Alexander County Sheriff’s Office, Cairo Police Department, and the U.S. Marshals Service.
