Video Shows “Portion” of Deadly Police-Involved Shooting in Fairhill

PHILADELPHIA – Investigators in Philadelphia are currently reviewing a video that captures a segment of a deadly officer-involved shooting that took place on Friday. The incident occurred in a corner store located at the intersection of Mascher and Cambria streets.

The video, recorded from a doorway of the store, reveals an audible gunshot and depicts a struggle between two police officers and 28-year-old Alexander Spencer.

According to the Philadelphia Police Department, the officers entered the store on Friday night and attempted to apprehend Spencer, who was among a group of individuals inside the establishment.

A scuffle broke out between Spencer and the two officers, during which Spencer allegedly fired a shot that struck one of the officers in the thigh.

In response, the second officer discharged their weapon, fatally striking Spencer. He was immediately rushed to Temple University Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Authorities are currently uncertain about the reason behind the initial attempt to apprehend Spencer. However, court records indicate that he had previously been arrested multiple times, including as recently as 2023.

The injured officer, a 9-year veteran of the Philadelphia Police Force, was transported to the hospital and is currently in stable condition.

Following the incident, the officer who fired the fatal shot was uninjured and has been placed on administrative leave in accordance with departmental policy as the investigation unfolds.

Law enforcement agencies are now actively searching for 52-year-old Jose Quinones-Mendez, who allegedly picked up Spencer’s firearm after the shooting and left the corner store.
