MQM-P and PPP Clash in Karachi: One Dead, One Injured

A violent clash between Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) in Karachi’s Nazimabad area on Sunday night resulted in the death of a political worker from MQM-P and left a PPP activist injured. The incident occurred when a PPP rally passed by the MQM-P office, and tensions escalated when some PPP workers tried to hoist their party flag in front of the office. The exchange of harsh words between the two groups soon turned into physical violence.

The situation took a more dangerous turn when unidentified armed individuals began firing indiscriminately, and some people attacked vehicles with sticks. The intensity of the firing was so high that it could be heard from a considerable distance. Although the police from Gulbahar Police Station arrived at the scene, the firing continued unabated.

During the clash, two vehicles were set on fire by unidentified individuals, forcing the owners to abandon them and flee. Rangers arrived in large numbers and eventually managed to bring an end to the firing. A fire brigade vehicle arrived to extinguish the fire that had engulfed the vehicles. Unfortunately, by the time the owners reached their cars in the Ranger’s mobile, both vehicles had been completely destroyed.

The deceased MQM-P worker, Faraz Ahmed Qureshi, was 44 years old and the son of Ghayoor Ahmed Qureshi. He was in charge of Gulbahar Sectors Unit 38. The injured PPP activist, Rao Muhammad Talha, is 25 years old and the son of Rao Muhammad Salim.

Following the incident, several MQM-P activists rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and stayed there until 5 am. After the necessary police proceedings, Faraz’s body was taken to a KKF morgue in the New Karachi area.

The police have taken four individuals into custody for investigation, suspecting their involvement in the firing. Multiple spent cartridges found at the crime scene have been sent for forensic analysis.

Siddiqui Condemns the Attack

Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, the convenor of MQM-P, expressed deep sorrow over the death of their party worker in the clash. He accused PPP workers of attacking their office because MQM-P was challenging them in the upcoming elections. Siddiqui emphasized that MQM-P did not wish to engage in conflict and questioned the need to repeat history. He warned that the peace in the city may be disturbed as the election date nears, and criticized the authorities for giving a “licence to kill” to those who attacked MQM-P workers.

PPP Claims MQM-P Using Old Tactics

In a press conference held in Karachi, Saeed Ghani, a PPP leader, claimed that MQM-P was reverting to its old tactics and turning into MQM-London. He expressed concern over the current situation and stated that if MQM-P decided to run away from the elections, they would be solely responsible for their decision. Ghani alleged that Mustafa Kamal, a MQM-P leader, was responsible for the incident and called for an FIR to be filed against him. He urged the authorities to take action and prevent further violence.

It is important for all political parties involved to maintain peace and ensure the safety of their workers and supporters. The upcoming elections should be a platform for healthy competition and the expression of democratic values, rather than a space for violence and confrontation.
