A man from Lucknow, identified as Rishabh Nigam, has been arrested in Mumbai for the murder of Vandana Dwivedi, a 26-year-old techie who used to work at Infosys in Pune. The shocking incident took place in a hotel in Pune, where Nigam allegedly shot and killed Vandana four times. He was later apprehended in possession of the murder weapon at a police checkpoint in Navi Mumbai (Thane).

According to the Mumbai Police, a case has been registered and investigations are currently underway. Assistant Commissioner of Police (Wakad Division) Vishal Hire stated that the motive behind the killing is yet to be determined. However, during questioning, Nigam confessed that he was in a relationship with Vandana for the past 12 years.

The chronology of events reveals that Nigam had reserved a hotel room in Hinjewadi’s Laxminagar area on January 27, where Vandana had gone to meet him. Preliminary investigations suggest that the couple, who had a tumultuous relationship since Vandana moved to Pune for work, engaged in a heated dispute and altercation in the hotel room late on Saturday night.

In a fit of rage, Nigam reportedly pulled out a pistol and shot Vandana multiple times, with at least four bullets striking her head and neck, before fleeing the scene. The hotel staff discovered her lifeless body on Sunday, prompting immediate police intervention and a manhunt for Nigam.

CCTV footage captured Nigam leaving the hotel room alone around 9.50 pm on Saturday. He then hired a cab to Mumbai, as confirmed by Pimpri Chinchwad ACP Vishal Hire. However, the hotel staff informed the police that they did not hear the gunshots due to a large celebration in the vicinity following the conclusion of the Maratha quota agitation in Navi Mumbai on January 27.

Nigam has been handed over to the Pimpri Chinchwad Police, and he has admitted to the murder. He is set to appear before a Pune Court for remand on Monday.

This tragic incident has left the community in shock and raises concerns about the safety of individuals, especially in cases involving domestic disputes. The investigation will continue to unfold, shedding more light on the motive behind this senseless act of violence.

It is essential for authorities to thoroughly examine the circumstances leading up to the incident and ensure justice is served. The loss of a young life is always a devastating event, and our thoughts go out to Vandana’s family and friends during this difficult time.

In conclusion, it is crucial for society to address and prevent such acts of violence, fostering a safer environment for everyone..
