Delhi Traffic Police Officer Dragged on Car Bonnet in Attempted Murder Case

A head constable of the Delhi Traffic Police was subjected to a horrifying incident in Delhi Cantt when he was dragged on the bonnet of a car for approximately 400 meters. The reason behind this brutal act was a simple request made by the constable for the driver to produce the vehicle’s documents. The police have arrested the accused and charged him with attempted murder.

The victim, identified as Balwant Singh, serves in the IGIA traffic circle in New Delhi. The incident occurred on Saturday at around 10:10 am. Singh and assistant sub-inspector Hanuman Sahai were engaged in issuing challans for improper parking on the road connecting Terminal 1 to Mehram Nagar.

During their duty, Singh asked one of the drivers to present the necessary car documents. Unexpectedly, the driver pretended to retrieve the documents but instead got inside the car, started the engine, and sped away. Sahai managed to avoid being hit, but Singh was unfortunate and was struck by the car, causing him to be flung onto the bonnet. The driver then callously dragged him for 400 meters.

Fortunately, another driver noticed the alarming situation and quickly stopped his car in front of the offending vehicle. This act prevented the accused from escaping, and he was apprehended by the police. The accused has been identified as Rashid Ali, a 43-year-old resident of Meerut.

Upon investigation, Rashid revealed to the police that he had previously been issued a challan by traffic cops, which had infuriated him. When he was caught again, his anger got the better of him, leading to the shocking act of dragging the head constable.

This incident is reminiscent of a similar case that occurred in February last year. A 34-year-old traffic police head constable was also dragged on the bonnet of a car in Shalimar Bagh when he attempted to stop a vehicle allegedly being driven by a juvenile.
