Tragic Accident in Pattaya Leaves British Citizen Dead

Bangkok, Thailand (CNN) — A British BASE jumper met a tragic end in Thailand when his parachute failed to open during a jump from an apartment building in the popular beachside resort city of Pattaya, according to local police.

The incident occurred at around 6 p.m on Saturday evening, and authorities were immediately alerted to the accident at a residential complex, said Police Colonel Nawin Sinthurat.

The victim has been identified as Nathy Odinson, a 33-year-old British male citizen. Odinson’s Facebook and Instagram accounts showcased his passion for extreme sports, particularly skydiving and BASE jumping, which involves jumping from buildings, antennae, bridges, and cliffs.

Odinson leaped from the 29th floor of the 32-story building, an exhilarating but dangerous act. Sinthurat revealed that Odinson had been involved in the business of selling parachute kits for the past decade.

The parachute backpack was still attached to Odinson’s body, indicating a malfunction in the equipment. The police confirmed that this was a tragic accident and not a deliberate act.

At the time of the incident, there was another individual present, described as a friend, who was capturing the jump on camera. Thai authorities are currently investigating the incident and trying to determine if Odinson had previously used the same location for his parachuting activities. They have also retrieved CCTV footage for further analysis.
