Homa Bay – Rachuonyo East sub-county commander Justus Kucha has confirmed police efforts to determine the cause of death of a woman whose body was found in River Awach after being missing for a couple of days.
Caroline Akoth’s Disappearance and Tragic Discovery
Caroline Akoth, a 50-year-old woman from Ogenga village in Kasewe location, Homa Bay, went missing on Friday, January 26, after going to cultivate her piece of land. Concerns were raised when she failed to return home.

Her husband, worried about her absence, initiated a search and eventually reported the case to the area chief, Dickson Samba. The search for Akoth intensified until her body was tragically discovered trapped between reeds and twigs in the fast-flowing river.
“We found the body trapped on reeds and twigs in the river waters. The matter has been reported to the police for investigation,” said Samba.
Caroline Akoth’s body was retrieved and taken to Jawabu Hospital Mortuary, where an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of her death.
“We’re going to interrogate more family members as well as undertake a postmortem to establish the cause of death,” stated Justus Kucha, Rachuonyo East sub-county commander.
Kucha emphasized the importance of promptly reporting cases of missing persons to reduce such occurrences in the future.
Another Tragic Incident in Kirinyaga County
In a separate incident, a 60-year-old woman named Esther Wambui was found dead, with her body dumped in a coffee plantation near her home in Kirinyaga county.
According to Joseph Githinji, the area assistant chief, Wambui was attacked while she was on her way home.
