Accident – death – Obituary News : A SERIAL killer’s tenth victim has finally been identified after his remains were discovered among 10,000 charred bones and fragments on a sprawling 18-acre estate in central Indiana. The victim, Manuel Resendez, 34, was brutally killed nearly three decades ago, but his identity remained unknown until now. This breakthrough comes thanks to the efforts of Hamilton County Coroner Jeff Jellison and the support of law enforcement and forensic specialists.

Resendez’s family provided a DNA sample in early 2023, which led to his identification. Coroner Jellison expressed his gratitude to the entire team involved in the investigation. He had revitalized the case in 2022 by requesting DNA samples from relatives of individuals who had gone missing between the mid-1980s and mid-1990s. Jellison believes that at least 25 people are among the remains found on the property belonging to serial killer Herbert Baumeister.

Baumeister, a married father-of-three, targeted his victims at gay bars and lured them to his estate, where he would then kill them. In 1996, his 15-year-old son discovered the 10,000 charred bones and fragments just 60 yards from their home. Baumeister attempted to explain away the gruesome discovery by claiming they were from his father’s medical practice. However, the investigation revealed his dark secret as he and his wife were in the midst of divorce proceedings.

After the discovery, Baumeister’s wife and children were taken into protective custody. Three days later, firefighters found even more remains. Baumeister, 49, committed suicide in Canada in July 1996, just two weeks after the bodies were found on his property.

One of Baumeister’s other victims, Allen Livingston, was identified as the ninth victim in October 2023. Livingston, who went missing in 1993, was found through the help of forensic anthropologist Krista Latham. She highlighted the advancements in DNA technology that have allowed for the investigation of skeletal material in ways that were not previously possible.

Coroner Jellison remains hopeful that more victims will be identified as advancements in the case continue. Additional bodies believed to be linked to Baumeister were discovered in streams in rural central Indiana and western Ohio. Authorities have connected Baumeister to the disappearances of at least 16 men since 1980.

Jellison acknowledges that these victims were essentially forgotten, but with the recent breakthroughs, they are no longer forgotten. He hopes that more families can find closure and bring justice to their loved ones who fell victim to Baumeister’s horrifying crimes. The search for answers continues, and the identification of the tenth victim brings us one step closer to uncovering the full extent of Baumeister’s reign of terror..
