Lawyer Arrested in Delhi for Sending Explicit Images Involving Minors

Delhi: In a recent development, Delhi police have apprehended a lawyer who allegedly engaged in the distribution of explicit images involving minors and extorted money from an individual by impersonating a Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) official.

The accused, identified as S. S. Mahendran, a 37-year-old resident of Thapal Patti, Madhavaram, was arrested following a complaint filed by a person named Abhishek on the national cybercrime portal. According to the complaint, Abhishek had received inappropriate photos of young girls from Mahendran. Upon opening these images, Mahendran, pretending to be a JJB official, contacted Abhishek and threatened him with potential charges related to child pornography. Fearful of legal consequences, Abhishek complied with Mahendran’s demands and transferred Rs 1,000 to a Google Pay account.

The cybercrime portal authorities immediately alerted the Child Welfare Committee about the incident. The committee, in turn, informed the Chennai city police, initiating a search operation to trace the suspect. The police were successful in locating and apprehending Mahendran.

Legal Actions Taken Against the Accused

Following his arrest, the Anna Nagar all-women police registered a case against Mahendran under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, Information Technology Act, and other relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code. The accused has been remanded to judicial custody.

Murder Case Unearthed in Maharashtra’s Thane District

In a separate incident, officials in Maharashtra’s Thane district made a gruesome discovery on Saturday. The lifeless body of a 32-year-old man, identified as Chandraprakash Sureshchandra Lobanshi, who had been missing since January 20, was found tied to a stone in a well in Davdi village, Dombivali East.

The police were alerted by locals who reported the sighting of the body on Thursday. Upon examination, authorities observed wounds on the victim’s back and neck, inflicted by sharp weapons, indicating that this was a murder case.

Investigation and Legal Proceedings

The police have launched an investigation into the murder and are treating it as a heinous crime. They are working to identify the perpetrator(s) and determine the motive behind the killing. Legal actions will be taken against the culprits in accordance with the Indian Penal Code.
