Tragic Shooting Incident Claims Life of 15-Year-Old Boy in West Seattle

A devastating incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon in West Seattle, where a 15-year-old boy tragically lost his life in a fatal shooting. The incident took place at around 1:26 p.m. in the 2800 block of Southwest Thistle Street, prompting an immediate response from local law enforcement.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered the teenager with a gunshot wound in the bathroom of a community building. The victim, identified as Mobarak Sharif Adam of Seattle, was reportedly accompanied by friends who later left the premises.

Seattle Police Chief Adrian Diaz provided a statement, saying, “Several youths had entered the establishment, they noted their friend had been shot, and then they left. We’re still trying to gather more details about what occurred. Currently, we have not received any reports of an altercation or any other circumstances that would suggest the motive behind the incident.”

Law enforcement officials are actively investigating the circumstances leading up to the shooting and are also searching for the firearm used in the incident. At this point, the incident has not been officially classified as a homicide.

Chief Diaz clarified, “We haven’t had a homicide this year, so we’re not yet determining if this is a homicide. Our homicide unit is investigating this case to establish whether there is potential criminal activity involved, but we’re still uncertain at this moment.”

The shooting incident occurred in close proximity to Chief Sealth International High School and Denny International Middle School. As a precautionary measure, students were released an hour after the incident. Many students, either alone or in groups, passed by the active crime scene.

Local resident Monica Sayers expressed her concerns, stating, “I feel like they should at least text the parents if their kid is at the school. Whether it’s at the middle or high school, there should be some form of notification, like an amber alert, sent to the people who live in the area.”

Brooke Bridgeford, a parent of a student at Denny International Middle School, was surprised by the lack of communication from the school regarding the incident. She stated, “I’m surprised I didn’t receive any information about it.”

Sheila Guarin-Juta, a long-time resident in the area, expressed her heightened sense of concern and vigilance. She shared, “Usually, I’m not that scared, but now it’s alarming, and I have to be more aware of my surroundings before I walk around.”

The investigation into this tragic incident continues, as law enforcement agencies work tirelessly to uncover the truth behind the shooting. As the community mourns the loss of a young life, it is essential for everyone to remain vigilant and report any relevant information that could aid in the investigation.
