RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Police Identify Victim of Fatal Shooting in Gilpin Court, Richmond’s Northside

Victim Identified

Richmond Police Department detectives have successfully identified the victim of the tragic shooting that occurred last night on West Federal Street in Gilpin Court, located in Richmond’s Northside. The victim has been identified as 43-year-old James Champion IV from Richmond.

Shooting Incident

According to the Richmond Police, the incident took place on Thursday, January 25, around 7:15 p.m. Officers swiftly responded to a report of shots being fired on the 100 block of West Federal Street in Gilpin Court.

Upon reaching the scene, law enforcement discovered James Champion IV lying in the stairwell of a building. Sadly, he had sustained a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.
