Covington, Ky – In a tragic incident that has left the community in shock, the mother and father of a 2-year-old child who was fatally shot earlier this week have been taken into custody and charged with manslaughter. The Kenton County commonwealth attorney, Rob Sanders, confirmed the arrest and charges.

According to arrest records, 23-year-old Selena Farrell was apprehended by the Kenton County Sheriff’s Office and booked into jail on Thursday morning. The child’s father, 21-year-old Tashaun Adams, was also arrested, although the exact time of his arrest was not confirmed. Adams is currently being held at the Boone County Jail.

Sanders revealed that the heartbreaking incident occurred when the 2-year-old child, identified as Khalil Adams, was accidentally shot and killed by his 3-year-old brother. Investigators are still trying to determine how the younger child obtained possession of the firearm.

Both Farrell and Adams are facing charges of second-degree manslaughter, as stated by Sanders. In addition, Adams has been charged with hindering prosecution. Farrell, apart from manslaughter, is also facing charges of probation violation, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, and abandonment of a minor.

The Covington Police Department has also arrested a third individual, 20-year-old Jeremiah Thomas from Elsmere, who has been charged with hindering apprehension. Officials had been actively searching for Farrell since the incident on Monday. It was reported that she fled the scene before the arrival of the police and did not show up at the hospital.

Tragically, the 2-year-old victim succumbed to his injuries at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.
