The arrests were made in separate operations conducted between Monday and Tuesday. Two of the suspects, identified as Abdullahi Usman (20) and Hassan Ado (22), were apprehended for allegedly conspiring with Tasiu Umar, who is currently at large. The trio is accused of stealing 26 goats, with an estimated value of N1.3 million.

Swift Police Response

The investigation was initiated after Hassan Ibrahim of Abari village in Niger Republic reported the theft of his goats, worth N1.3 million, on January 22. The Babura police station promptly responded to the report and launched an investigation. As a result, Abdullahi Usman and Hassan Ado were arrested, and eight goats were recovered from their possession.

Confessions and Further Discoveries

During interrogation, the suspects confessed to stealing the 26 goats and revealed that they had sold 18 of them to Abdullahi Amadu of Kunyafa village and one to Mustapha of Madangana village, both of whom are currently on the run. The goats were reportedly sold for a total sum of N210,000.

The third suspect, Ado Buba (25) from Dundubus village in Dutse, was arrested on January 23. A patrol team attached to Kiyawa police division encountered him with 22 goats strongly suspected to be stolen from Andaza village in Kiyawa. The owner of the goats, Adamu Maina, positively identified them as his.

Legal Consequences

The arrested suspects will face legal charges after the completion of the investigation. Commissioner Abdullahi assured the public that the police are committed to ensuring justice is served and that criminals are held accountable for their actions.

With these recent arrests, the police command in Jigawa is sending a strong message to potential criminals that livestock theft will not be tolerated. The police will continue to work tirelessly to protect the livelihoods of farmers and ensure the safety and security of the communities in the state.
