Lorain Dirt Bike Rider Dies After Crashing into Police Cruiser in Active Scene

The Lorain Police Department was conducting a search warrant in the 2300 block of Homewood Drive when the incident occurred.

The search warrant was being executed in an attempt to apprehend a 16-year-old suspect wanted for receiving stolen property and discharging a firearm. As officers were searching the premises, they noticed the suspect and two other individuals sitting in the living room. Upon realizing the presence of the police, the three individuals attempted to flee but were eventually apprehended and handcuffed.

During this time, officers reported hearing the sound of a dirt bike in the vicinity, along with someone yelling and taunting them. Suddenly, a man on a dirt bike sped through the scene at speeds exceeding 70 miles per hour, narrowly missing officers on the street, and crashing into an unoccupied police cruiser.

As a result of the collision, the dirt bike rider, identified as 22-year-old Sandalio Rodriguez from Lorain, was thrown from his bike. Officers immediately provided medical aid, but unfortunately, Rodriguez was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lorain County Coroner.
