Accident – death – Obituary News : **Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Releases Footage of Deputy Shooting Woman in Home Burglary Investigation**

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department has recently made public body-worn camera footage capturing a deputy shooting a 53-year-old woman during an investigation into a home burglary last year. The incident occurred in the early hours of December 10, 2021, when deputies responded to a burglary in progress at a residence located on Highway 74 in Palm Desert.

Sheriff Chad Bianco described the events leading up to the shooting in a “critical incident video.” According to the footage and Bianco’s statement, a woman inside the house contacted the dispatch, reporting an unidentified armed man present in her home. The dispatch recording captured her distress, as she expressed fear for her life while hiding in her bedroom.

The released video shows deputies announcing their presence to the individuals inside the home. They requested anyone present to exit the premises with their hands visible and empty. After a male individual complies and is handcuffed without incident, one of the deputies addresses a woman entering the room, instructing her to put down the knife she is holding. Despite repeated requests to drop the weapon, the woman, identified as Kelly Cronn, throws the knife, and the video abruptly ends with a gunshot heard.

Cronn sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was immediately transported to a local hospital for treatment. Sheriff Bianco further revealed that the knife Cronn had thrown possessed an 8-inch blade. Following her medical evaluation, Cronn was taken into police custody and is currently held at the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside. She faces two felony counts of assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer, with a bail set at $130,000. Her court appearance is scheduled for March 8.

Sheriff Bianco emphasized that an ongoing investigation into the shooting is being conducted. The Riverside County District Attorney’s Office will review the case, as is customary for all deputy-involved shootings. Additionally, the sheriff’s department will internally assess the deputies’ actions to ensure compliance with department policies and training standards.
