Charge of Accessory After the Fact to Murder Withdrawn Against Local Woman

The charge of accessory after the fact to murder against Qualynn Janelle Loon in connection with the September 2022 death of Shawn Mark Newsome has been withdrawn. However, a Toronto man, Isaac Talbot-Hall, is still facing a second-degree murder charge in relation to the case.

Thunder Bay, a city in Northwestern Ontario, was gripped by the tragic events surrounding the homicide at a north side apartment in September 2022. The victim, 28-year-old Shawn Mark Newsome, originally from Ajax, Ontario, was found seriously injured at Andras Court on Cumberland Street South in the early morning hours of September 24, 2022.

Upon the arrival of first responders, it became apparent that Newsome’s injuries were consistent with a severe assault. The injured victim was swiftly transported to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, but unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries.

As part of the investigation into Newsome’s death, Qualynn Janelle Loon, a 28-year-old Thunder Bay resident, was initially charged with accessory after the fact to murder. However, at the request of the Crown, the charges against Loon have been withdrawn.

Following an extensive investigation, the Thunder Bay Police Service arrested Isaac Talbot-Hall, a 28-year-old man from Toronto, on November 8, 2022. Talbot-Hall was charged with second-degree murder in connection with Newsome’s death.

While Loon’s charges have been dropped, the case against Talbot-Hall is ongoing. A preliminary hearing for Talbot-Hall, which will determine if there is enough evidence to proceed to trial on the charges, is expected to commence next month. The Crown is currently working on confirming a witness for the hearing, which is scheduled for nine days.
