Arrest Made in Miami Shores Break-In and Attempted Burglary

MIAMI SHORES, FLA. – Authorities have successfully apprehended a suspect in connection to a recent break-in and attempted burglary in Miami Shores, Florida. The arrest was made after diligent efforts by Miami Shores Police, in collaboration with City of Miami Police, to track down the perpetrator.

The arrest was captured on body camera footage, showcasing the joint operation conducted by the law enforcement agencies in a Miami neighborhood on Thursday morning.

Police identified the suspect as 42-year-old John Bellevue, who is now in custody. Miami Shores Police Cmdr. Kerry Turner expressed relief, stating, “We’re just happy to get him off the streets.”

According to detectives, Bellevue was caught on multiple surveillance videos attempting to break into a house on January 16. Just fifteen minutes later, he managed to gain entry into a different residence located two blocks away. The suspect, wearing a dark colored hoodie and accompanied by a bicycle, fled with stolen bags filled with valuable items that did not belong to him.

Cmdr. Turner described Bellevue as a repeat offender, stating, “He’s no stranger to crime. You know, Miami Shores Police Department arrested him approximately five years ago for loitering and prowling in the same area. This explains, when you look at the video from last week, how comfortable he was, because he had been in the area before.”

Thanks to a valuable tip, detectives were able to locate the suspect and recover some of the stolen goods. Turner expressed gratitude towards the tipster, emphasizing the importance of community involvement in solving crimes. “I thank the tipster for providing the information, and that’s what we want. We want to put these stories out, and hopefully, someone will recognize this individual and call,” said Turner.

The tip ultimately led to the arrest of Bellevue, who is now facing multiple charges, including burglary, attempted burglary, criminal mischief, grand theft, and vandalism. He is currently being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in West Miami-Dade.

Cmdr. Turner had a stern message for potential criminals targeting Miami Shores homes, stating, “Stay out of Miami Shores. We take these crimes very seriously. You commit a crime in Miami Shores, you’re going to get caught.”
