Investigation underway into possible drowning at Keauhou Bay

An inquiry is currently being conducted by Hawaii Island Police regarding a potential drowning incident at Keauhou Bay. The incident involved an 83-year-old tourist identified as Wayne Argyle from Centerville, Utah.

According to police reports, the investigation revealed that Argyle was participating in a guided snorkeling tour at Kealakekua Bay. After a safety briefing, Argyle entered the water and had been submerged for approximately five minutes when a crew member noticed him drifting face down towards the boat. The crew members immediately responded and brought Argyle on board, where they initiated cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in an attempt to revive him.

Upon reaching the Keauhou Boat Harbor, the vessel was met by HFD medics who continued providing medical treatment to Argyle. He was then transported to Kona Community Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased upon arrival.

Hawaii Island Police have commenced a coroner’s inquest investigation to determine the precise cause of death. At present, there is no suspicion of foul play.
