Wise County Man Arrested on Child Pornography Charges

WISE COUNTY, Va. – In a joint effort between the Wise County Sheriff’s Office and the Warren County Sheriff’s Office, a 43-year-old man from Wise County has been apprehended on child pornography charges. The arrest came after a thorough investigation by the two law enforcement agencies.

The Warren County Sheriff’s Office reached out to the Wise County Sheriff’s Office on January 14 for their assistance in identifying a suspect related to an ongoing investigation. The suspect, identified as Aaron Smith, had been targeted by Warren County investigators during an undercover operation aimed at combating online predators.

During the operation, Smith allegedly engaged with an undercover investigator, who posed as a 14-year-old, explicitly requesting illicit content and photos. Shockingly, Smith also sent obscene materials to the investigator.

Upon receiving the request for assistance, Wise County investigators collaborated closely with their counterparts in Warren County to gather crucial information and positively identify Smith as the suspect in question.

Following the acquisition of necessary warrants, Smith was taken into custody. He now faces a total of ten felony charges, including multiple counts of using communication systems to facilitate offenses involving children, as well as possession, reproduction, distribution, solicitation, and facilitation of child pornography.

Wise County Sheriff Grant Kilgore expressed his commitment to the community’s safety, particularly the well-being of children. In a news release, he conveyed his appreciation for the collaborative efforts of the Warren County Sheriff’s Office in bringing this alleged suspect to justice.
