Deputy Involved in Crash with Suspected Impaired Driver in Coventry Township

COVENTRY TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WOIO) – A deputy from the Summit County Sheriff’s Office was involved in a collision early Thursday morning with a suspected impaired driver. Fortunately, the deputy escaped unscathed.

The incident occurred at approximately 3:25 a.m. at the intersection of South Main Street and Swartz Road in Coventry Township.

According to the sheriff’s office, the deputy’s patrol car had come to a stop at a traffic light when Lindsey Cope, a 36-year-old resident of Green, crashed into it.

Although the deputy sustained only minor injuries, the sheriff’s office ensured immediate on-scene medical treatment.

In a news release, the sheriff’s office stated that Lindsey Cope was subsequently apprehended and now faces multiple charges. These charges include operating a vehicle under the influence, possession of an open container in a motor vehicle, failure to maintain assured clear distance ahead, and distracted driving.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
