Arrest Made in November 2023 Homicide Case in North Little Rock

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The North Little Rock Police Department has successfully apprehended a suspect in a homicide investigation that dates back to November of 2023.

According to officials from the NLRPD, 39-year-old Jonelle Mathis surrendered himself to authorities at the North Little Rock District Court on Thursday in connection with the fatal shooting of 43-year-old Jason Smith.

Deadly Shooting on West 35th Street

The incident occurred on November 21, 2023, when law enforcement officers responded to a residence in the 1500 block of West 35th Street at approximately midnight. Upon arrival, they discovered Jason Smith inside the home with at least one gunshot wound.

Emergency medical services were immediately summoned, and Smith was swiftly transported to a nearby hospital. Tragically, Smith succumbed to his injuries and passed away.

Following an extensive investigation, authorities identified Jonelle Mathis as a suspect and obtained a warrant for his arrest on Wednesday.
