Morgantown Man Arrested for Holding WKU Employee at Gunpoint

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) – A Morgantown resident, Jason Findley, is facing multiple charges after allegedly holding a Western Kentucky University (WKU) employee at gunpoint. The incident took place on WKU’s Campus in the Service Supply Lot, and it has raised concerns about campus safety.

The Terrifying Encounter

According to WKU Police Chief Mitchell Walker, the harrowing incident occurred just after 5:00 p.m. when a female WKU employee was leaving work and heading towards her vehicle in the Service Supply Lot. As she walked, an individual hiding in a golf cart approached her, brandishing a firearm.

The employee managed to stay calm and quickly devised a plan to distract the suspect, giving her an opportunity to escape. She swiftly fled the scene and dialed 911 to report the incident, ensuring immediate police intervention.

Swift Police Response

WKU Police and the Bowling Green Police Department promptly arrived at the location and made contact with the distressed employee. She informed the authorities that she believed the suspect was hiding behind a nearby truck in the parking lot, as he had attempted to coerce her into taking him somewhere.

The officers acted swiftly and cautiously, managing to establish communication with the suspect, later identified as 47-year-old Jason Findley from Morgantown. After negotiating with Findley, they successfully convinced him to surrender his weapon without further incident.

Arrest and Charges

Following the peaceful resolution, the police took Findley into custody. He was subsequently transported to the Warren County Regional Jail, where he is currently being held without bond.
