Man Arrested for Fatal Shooting Following Car Accident in North Memphis

Monterio Lyons Charged with First-Degree Murder

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man is in custody after police say he shot and killed another man following a car accident that escalated into a fight last month in North Memphis.

Monterio Lyons, a 25-year-old man, has been charged with first-degree murder and is currently being held in jail with no bond set.

According to the Memphis Police Department (MPD), the incident occurred on December 6 at 7:10 p.m. at the scene of a car accident on North Hollywood Street.

Jermane Greer, who had come to check on his family members involved in the wreck, was involved in a fight that broke out between the family members of those in the accident, including a minor.

After the fight was broken up, Monterio Lyons, identified as the brother of one of the individuals involved in the accident, shot Jermane Greer multiple times in the upper torso, resulting in Greer’s death.

During the investigation, it was uncovered that Lyons’ mother was present at the scene of the shooting. While she confirmed that Lyons was also present, she did not witness the shooting itself.

Another individual who had been assisting Greer in the fight positively identified Monterio Lyons as the person responsible for the fatal shooting, according to police reports.

Monterio Lyons is scheduled to appear in court on Friday morning to face charges.
