Girlfriend of Joliet Shooting Suspect Charged with Obstructing Justice

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – The girlfriend of the suspect believed to have killed eight people in Joliet last weekend has been charged with obstructing justice, police in the southwest suburb said Wednesday.

A tragic incident unfolded in Joliet last weekend, where eight people lost their lives in a series of shocking events. Now, authorities have charged Kyleigh Cleveland-Singleton, the girlfriend of the suspect, Romeo Nance, with obstructing justice.

Investigations into the devastating incident revealed that Cleveland-Singleton, aged 21, is not only the girlfriend of Nance but also the mother of his 3-year-old son. The police had been looking into the case after seven bodies were discovered in two homes on West Acres Road.

During questioning, detectives became suspicious of Cleveland-Singleton’s statements, believing that she was intentionally hindering the suspect’s apprehension and obstructing the ongoing investigation. As a result, she now faces one count of obstruction of justice, approved by the prosecutors.

Authorities had issued a public alert on Monday, warning the public about Nance, who was considered armed and dangerous. It was later revealed that Nance had shot and killed the seven victims, who were later identified as his own family members. Prior to these tragic events, he had also attacked and wounded another individual at a different location.

In a shocking turn of events, Nance ultimately took his own life on Monday, succumbing to a self-inflicted gunshot wound during a confrontation with authorities in Texas.

The investigation into the Joliet shooting spree is still ongoing, as authorities attempt to piece together the events that led to such a tragic outcome.
