Joliet Teenager Charged with First-Degree Murder in North Austin Shooting

A Joliet teenager has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the tragic shooting of a 17-year-old girl in the North Austin neighborhood, according to the Chicago police. The incident occurred on August 19, 2023.

The identity of the teenager has not been disclosed as he is being charged as a juvenile. However, law enforcement authorities apprehended him on Wednesday in the 1100 block of Mills Road in Joliet. After a thorough investigation, the authorities confirmed that he was the individual responsible for the fatal shooting that took place on August 19, 2023, just after 4 p.m. The incident occurred in the 5700 block of North Bloomingdale Avenue.

The tragic shooting incident unfolded at Galewood Park, where another teenage individual sustained injuries. The victim has been identified as Ashuntice Wilburn, a resident of the west suburban Westmont, as stated by the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

The teenager has a detention hearing scheduled for Thursday to address the charges brought against him.
