Four Arrested in Iloilo City Drug Busts

Police in Iloilo City have successfully apprehended four individuals and seized over P500,000 worth of suspected shabu in separate operations conducted on January 24, 2024. These operations are part of the Police Regional Office-Western Visayas’ (PRO 6) ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region, particularly during the Dinagyang Festival.

Construction Worker Arrested in Zone 3

Iloilo City Police Station 4 (Icpo 4) carried out the first operation in Zone 3, Barangay Taal, Molo District, resulting in the arrest of a 45-year-old construction worker known as Insoy. Insoy, a newly identified street-level drug personality (SLI), was found in possession of approximately 17 grams of shabu, with an estimated value of P115,600. Additionally, a homemade firearm of unknown caliber was confiscated during the arrest. Insoy is currently detained at Icpo 4, awaiting legal proceedings. Evidence presented against him includes four sachets of shabu, buy-bust money, and non-drug items.

High-Value Individuals Apprehended in Barangay Rizal Ibarra

The second operation, led by Iloilo City Police Station 1 (Icpo 1) and supported by the City Drug Enforcement Unit (CDEU) and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Group (PDEG), resulted in the arrest of three high-value individuals (HVIs) known by the aliases Ontoy, Rutchell, and Bongkoy. The operation took place in Barangay Rizal Ibarra, City Proper, at 4:20 p.m. The suspects were caught red-handed selling a sachet of shabu to an undercover police officer.

A total of 57 grams of shabu, with a street value of approximately P387,600, was recovered during this operation. Alongside the drugs, authorities also seized buy-bust money and various non-drug related items. The arrested individuals now face charges for violating Republic Act 9165, commonly referred to as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Police Brigadier General Sidney Villaflor, the regional director of PRO 6, commended the efforts of the officers involved in both successful operations. He emphasized the importance of remaining vigilant and working together to prevent illegal drugs from infiltrating the market, especially during the Dinagyang Festival 2024 celebrations.
