Tinley Park, Illinois – A shocking incident unfolded on Sunday when a father allegedly murdered his wife and three daughters in their family home. Maher Kassem, 63, has been charged with four counts of first-degree murder in connection with the tragic event.

According to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, the shooting occurred after an argument about finances between Kassem and one of his daughters. The altercation escalated when Kassem’s wife and two other daughters intervened in an attempt to calm him down. Tragically, their efforts were in vain.

The gruesome details of the incident were revealed in a bond proffer presented by prosecutors. Kassem’s 19-year-old son, who was present during the incident, recounted the horrifying sequence of events. Awakened by the commotion, he discovered his mother and two sisters fatally shot. He also witnessed his father shoot his third daughter moments before his arrival.

Authorities reported that Kassem did not turn the gun towards his son during the ordeal. Kassem’s wife was shot seven times, while each daughter was shot twice. The police were alerted to the situation when Kassem made a distressing call at approximately 11:21 am, reporting that someone had been shot at their Tinley Park residence.

Upon arrival, law enforcement discovered the four lifeless bodies in the basement of the home. Village Manager Pat Carr confirmed that two guns were found at the scene. As officers inquired about the whereabouts of his family, Kassem allegedly directed them to the basement, stating, “They’re gone.”

Kassem cooperated with the police and admitted to the shooting. Assistant State’s Attorney Scott Clark revealed that Kassem had expressed discontentment with how he was being treated by his family. “The defendant was recorded volunteering things about having just retired, and that ‘She treats me like a [expletive] dog,” Clark stated. “I worked 40 years and I worked all my life to give my family a better home, and they treat me like [expletive].”

Authorities have not found any previous records of police interactions at the family’s home. Tinley Park Mayor Michael Glotz expressed his deep sadness at the tragedy, stating, “Words can’t describe how deeply saddened I am at this horrible tragedy.”

In the wake of this devastating incident, the community came together to honor and pray for the four women at the Mosque Foundation in Bridgeview. Funeral services and a vigil were held on Tuesday evening to remember the lives lost.

Kassem is scheduled to appear in court again on February 16th, where he will face the charges brought against him..
