Two-Vehicle Crash Near Weslaco Leaves One Dead and Two Injured

WESLACO, Texas – In a tragic incident on Thursday afternoon, a woman lost her life and two men were hospitalized following a two-vehicle crash near Weslaco. The collision took place at the intersection of FM 1015 and Chuparosa Street, just north of Weslaco, according to a news release from the Texas Department of Public Safety.

According to preliminary investigation reports, the tragic incident involved a black 2014 GMC Sierra and a brown 2005 Chrysler Town and Country Van. The GMC Sierra, with a male driver as the sole occupant, was heading northbound on FM 1015, while the Chrysler, driven by a female with a male passenger, was traveling westbound on Chuparosa Street, approaching FM 1015.

It has been revealed that the driver of the Chrysler failed to yield the right of way at a stop sign, resulting in a collision with the GMC Sierra. The impact of the crash caused severe injuries to the occupants of both vehicles.

Tragically, the driver of the Chrysler, identified as 57-year-old Josefina Herrera Castillo from Weslaco, succumbed to her injuries at the scene. The male passenger was immediately rushed to McAllen Medical Center in critical condition for medical treatment.

The driver of the GMC Sierra was also injured in the crash and was transported to Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen. Fortunately, his injuries were determined to be non-life-threatening.

Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash to determine the exact cause and any contributing factors. The investigation is expected to shed more light on the sequence of events leading up to the collision.
