An incident of theft involving a trailer and scrap metal was reported in the 200 block of W. Waco around 2 p.m. on January 9. The owner of the property informed authorities that the last sighting of the trailer was on January 4, located at the back of the property.

About a week later, surveillance cameras captured the suspect’s vehicle returning to the property to steal additional items from a shed. This crucial footage aided deputies in positively identifying both the vehicle and the suspect.

The suspect, identified as 46-year-old Commerce resident David Camacho, had been residing in Cooper but fled to a residence in Commerce after the theft and burglaries occurred.

During the course of the investigation, deputies successfully located Mr. Camacho in Commerce and verified the presence of the partially concealed trailer behind the residence. With the support of the Commerce Police Department, deputies were able to make contact with Mr. Camacho at the residence.

Consequently, Mr. Camacho was arrested and charged with State Jail Felony Possession of Stolen Property valued over $2,500 but under $30,000. Additionally, he admitted to the crime and was also charged with Burglary of a Building, which is also a State Jail Felony. Mr. Camacho has since been transferred to the Hunt County Jail, where he remains in custody on both charges.

During a search of the suspect’s pickup truck, deputies discovered several items stolen from the shed, further solidifying Mr. Camacho’s connection to the burglary.

The stolen trailer has been successfully recovered from the property and returned to its rightful owner.

Meanwhile, the Commerce Police Department apprehended two other individuals at the residence on unrelated charges.

“I express my gratitude to my staff for their exceptional work in solving this case, as well as to the Commerce Police Department for their invaluable assistance in the investigation and subsequent recovery of the trailer,” stated Delta County Sheriff Charla Singleton.
