The Minnesota State Patrol has identified Tahtinen as the driver of a small car involved in a collision with a large box truck.

The fatal crash occurred around 8:45 a.m. at the intersection of County Rd. 8 and Hwy. 30. According to the state crash report, the box truck, driven by 60-year-old Jeffry Allen Burnikel from Lime Springs, IA, was traveling north on County Rd. 8, while Tahtinen’s vehicle was heading eastbound on Hwy. 30. The two vehicles collided at the intersection, resulting in the tragic loss of Tahtinen’s life.

Despite the devastating outcome, Burnikel sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital for treatment. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts, and alcohol was not a factor in the accident. However, the roads were described as wet at the time of the collision.
