26-Year-Old Woman Charged in Fatal Crash that Claimed Four Lives in Charleston

Charleston, S.C. – A tragic incident unfolded in Charleston as a 26-year-old woman from James Island was charged in connection with a fatal car crash that resulted in the loss of four lives. Brittany Nicole Roper now faces four counts of felony driving under the influence.

The devastating incident occurred in the early morning hours of November 18th on Riverland Drive near George Griffith Boulevard. Responding swiftly to the scene, the Charleston Police Department discovered a white Cadillac SUV overturned on its side, having collided with a prominent oak tree known as the “Widowmaker tree.” Tragically, all passengers, with the exception of the driver, were ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead on-site.

Following a meticulous investigation conducted by the Major Accident Investigation Team, it was determined that Roper had a blood alcohol concentration of 0.090% at the time of the crash. Additionally, the toxicology report revealed the presence of THC in her system.
