A 15-Year-Old Student Arrested for Posting Photo of Guns on Snapchat

A 15-year-old student from Joliet West High School has been apprehended by authorities after posting a photo on Snapchat that depicted two firearms. The incident caused concern among students and led to an increased police presence at the school during the early morning hours of Wednesday.

Joliet Police Sergeant Dwayne English stated that the photo was shared in a Snapchat group chat commonly used by freshman students. The image showed two handguns, which raised suspicions and prompted an immediate investigation.

Upon discovering the photo, a detective promptly contacted the school administrators and security personnel to address the situation. With the identification of the 15-year-old male as the creator of the Snapchat post, detectives proceeded to his residence in the 400 block of South Des Plaines Street, where they took him into custody.

During a search of the student’s bedroom, detectives made a significant discovery. They found two loaded handguns, both of which had their serial numbers defaced. It was determined that these firearms were the same ones depicted in the Snapchat post.
