19-Year-Old Charged in Connection with Shooting death of 10-Year-Old Girl in Southeast D.C.

WASHINGTON (7News) — A devastating tragedy unfolded in Southeast D.C. on Mother’s Day 2023, as a 10-year-old girl lost her life in a senseless act of violence. Now, a second individual has been charged in connection with the shooting that took her away from her family.

On May 14, 2023, at approximately 9:14 p.m., law enforcement responded to the 3700 block of Hayes Street, Northeast, after receiving reports of gunshots in the area. Upon arrival, officers discovered evidence of a shooting, and soon after, 10-year-old Arianna Davis, a resident of Northeast D.C., was brought to a nearby fire station with gunshot wounds.

Tragically, despite the best efforts of medical professionals, young Arianna succumbed to her injuries three days later on May 17, 2023.

An investigation into the incident revealed that Arianna had been riding in the backseat of a car with her family when she was struck by a stray bullet, leaving a community devastated and mourning the loss of an innocent life.

Advancements in Technology Aid Investigation

Thanks to the utilization of cutting-edge technology, authorities were able to gather crucial evidence in their pursuit of justice. ShotSpotter technology, which detects and locates gunfire, indicated that a horrifying 23 rounds were fired just moments before 9:15 p.m. on the 3500 block of Hayes Street. Shockingly, an additional 30 rounds were discharged mere seconds later.

Community Support and Video Evidence Lead to Arrest

The heartbreak caused by this heinous act resonated throughout the community, prompting community members to step forward with tips and video evidence that proved invaluable to the investigation. As a direct result of their cooperation, 19-year-old Koran Gregory was apprehended on September 18, 2023.

However, the pursuit of justice did not end there. On Tuesday, January 23, officers transported 19-year-old Dallas McKinney from the D.C. Jail to the Homicide Branch. McKinney, a resident of Southeast D.C., has been charged with first-degree murder for his involvement in the shooting.

Continuing the Fight for Justice

The tragic loss of Arianna Davis serves as a stark reminder of the devastating impact that senseless acts of violence can have on our communities. While the arrests of Koran Gregory and Dallas McKinney are significant developments in the case, the fight for justice continues.

Law enforcement agencies remain committed to fully investigating this heartbreaking incident and holding all responsible parties accountable for their actions. They urge anyone with additional information to come forward, as even the smallest detail could prove instrumental in ensuring that justice is served.

As we mourn the loss of Arianna Davis, we must also reflect on the broader issue of gun violence plaguing our society. It is imperative that we come together as a community to address this epidemic and work towards creating a safer environment for future generations.

Let us stand united in demanding justice for Arianna and all victims of senseless violence, as we strive for a world where tragedies like these become a thing of the past.
