Madrid, January 24, 2024 – The Spanish police are currently conducting an investigation into the brutal murder of three elderly siblings, which is believed to be connected to an online romance scam that two of them fell victim to. The suspect, identified as Dilawar Hussain F.C., a 42-year-old man of Pakistani origin, has been arrested and confessed to the murders.
The lifeless bodies of the siblings, Amelia (67), Ángeles (74), and José Gutiérrez Ayuso (77), were discovered at their residence in Morata de Tajuña, a small town in southeastern Madrid. The bodies had been partially burned, adding to the heinous nature of the crime.
According to the civil guard, the motive behind the murders appears to be a debt owed to the suspect by the siblings. This debt is believed to be connected to the sisters’ involvement in an online scam. Friends and neighbors of the victims have revealed that Ángeles and Amelia had been engaged in online relationships for several years, with individuals claiming to be men from the United States.
Reports suggest that the two sisters sent a staggering amount of up to €400,000 (£340,000) to a man known as “Edward,” who portrayed himself as a member of the US military, along with his alleged friend. Much of their communication with these individuals took place through Facebook. It is important to note that José Gutiérrez Ayuso, who suffered from a mental disability, was not involved in the financial transactions.

As a result of these online relationships, the siblings’ finances were completely depleted. This led the sisters to seek financial assistance from locals and approach informal lenders. They even reached out to the mayor and priest of Morata de Tajuña for help, as reported by Spain’s ABC newspaper.
Dilawar Hussain had lived in the victims’ house as a lodger for several months, during which he developed a relationship with the siblings. He informed the police that the sisters owed him a significant amount of money, which he had provided as a high-interest loan. However, the sisters failed to repay the loan, leading to Hussain’s alleged involvement in the crime.
This is not the first time Hussain has displayed violent behavior towards Amelia. In fact, he had attacked her twice while residing in her home, with the second incident occurring in February 2023. The severity of the attack resulted in Amelia requiring medical attention. Hussain was subsequently sentenced to two years in jail and issued a restraining order. Surprisingly, he was released after serving only seven months, in September of the same year.
The authorities were alerted to the situation when concerned neighbors reported not having seen or heard from the siblings for several weeks. Upon entering the victims’ residence, the police made the gruesome discovery. Enrique Velilla, a close friend of the siblings, revealed that their relentless determination to send money to their supposed partners had forced them to sell a property they owned in Madrid. The bank had even cautioned them about the possibility of a scam, but their emotional involvement clouded their judgment.
Velilla emphasized that despite their unfortunate choices, the sisters were not naïve individuals. Amelia had received an education, and Ángeles had worked as a teacher. They were ordinary people who had fallen prey to the allure of love.
In conclusion, the Spanish police are diligently investigating the triple murder case of the Gutiérrez Ayuso siblings, with a focus on uncovering the full extent of their involvement in the online romance scam. The tragic incident serves as a reminder of the dangers lurking in the digital world and the importance of staying vigilant to protect oneself from fraudulent schemes..
