Romeo Nance, a 23-year-old man, is accused of carrying out a series of shootings in Joliet, which is located approximately 50 km from Chicago. The shootings occurred on Sunday, January 21, and Nance became the target of a manhunt after he was identified as the suspect in two random shootings in Joliet, one of which resulted in the death of 28-year-old Toyosi Bakare.

During surveillance at Nance’s home, authorities reportedly discovered the bodies of seven people in two different residences. It is believed that Nance lived in one of the homes where the victims, who were all related to each other, were found dead.

According to ABC 7 Chicago, which cited a press conference on Tuesday, most of the victims targeted by Nance were related to him. However, the motive for the killings remains unknown and the shootings are being described as “random.”

The victims have been identified as Christine Esters, 38, Tameka Nance, 47, William Esters II, 35, Joshua Nance, 31, Alexandria Nance, 20, and two teenage girls, aged 16 and 14, whose names have not been released due to their age.

Joliet Police Chief Bill Evans, speaking at the press conference on Tuesday, revealed that Romeo Nance had an extensive criminal history. He described the case as a “very complicated and active investigation” and stated that authorities are still searching for a motive.

Chief Evans explained that two of the shootings, one on Davis Street and one on Pheasant Run Lane, appear to be more random in nature than the others. These two shootings triggered the initial manhunt for the suspect. The other shootings targeted several relatives, including five women.

It is believed that Nance first killed seven people in the two homes before carrying out the other two shootings. Chief Evans stated that they do not know why Nance fled to Texas after the shootings, as he does not have any relatives in the state.

“We can’t get inside his head. We just don’t have any idea or clue as to why he did what he did,” said Chief Evans.

Nance was located by U.S. Marshals in Natalia, Texas, southwest of San Antonio, on Monday night. It is reported that Nance stopped at a Texas mall and was able to obtain Texas license plates before having a confrontation with police at a gas station. During the encounter, he died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The police have stated that the motive behind the crimes may never be known, but they are urging anyone with information to come forward.

In conclusion, the Joliet shooting spree that claimed the lives of eight people has left the community in shock. The suspect, Romeo Nance, was found dead in Texas, leaving many questions unanswered. The motive for the killings remains unknown, and authorities continue to investigate this tragic and senseless act of violence..
