While a SCIP spokesman could neither confirm nor deny specific information about any patient, program director Alton Moore explained that individuals with mental illness can be held involuntarily in an emergency room for up to 24 hours if they are deemed to be a danger to themselves or others. Following this, a psychiatrist’s recommendation can lead to the involuntary placement of a patient in a long-term care facility.

The horrific slaying of Deirdra Martin was followed by a disturbing incident at a local Wawa convenience store around 1 a.m. on January 13. Police allege that Stanley Martin drove his car into another vehicle outside the store, located on Springside Road in Westampton, a short distance from their home. He reportedly claimed to have a bomb and proceeded to assault customers and employees while destroying shelves and products inside the store. Less than an hour later, Martin was arrested by police after allegedly damaging the exterior of a nearby dollar store in Willingboro. Throughout his arrest, he continuously shouted for someone to call the FBI and the CIA.

The probable cause statement includes an incident that took place on January 11, in which Deirdra Martin contacted the police while she and her husband were driving to a mental health facility. According to the statement, a family member had already reported that Stanley Martin would stay up all night, pace back and forth, make loud noises, and write messages throughout the house. On that particular day, however, Stanley Martin veered off course, claiming he was being followed and blaming his wife for the situation. He allegedly destroyed her phone, threw it from the moving car, and forcibly removed her from the vehicle.

When the police arrived at the Martins’ Hinsdale Lane home in response to Deirdra Martin’s call, they discovered a disturbing scene. All electronics were unplugged, the circuit breaker had been turned off, and the walls were covered in messages written in red paint. The officers informed Deirdra Martin that her husband had been taken into custody by Mansfield police and transported to the SCIP facility. However, Alton Moore clarified that SCIP, being part of Legacy Treatment Services, operates as a mobile program and does not have a physical presence at a hospital.

Contradicting what the officers had told her, Deirdra Martin informed a family member the following morning via FaceTime that Stanley Martin had been released earlier that day and that she had picked him up and brought him back to their home on Hinsdale Lane. Subsequently, the police initiated a search for Stanley Martin at around 1 a.m. the next morning when he drove his car into another vehicle at a Wawa. He entered the store with an object concealed under his shirt, which turned out to be a white cord. Inside the store, he yelled, “Y’all know what time it is…Get on the f—ing ground,” and proceeded to assault a shopper, a store employee, and a manager.

Stanley Martin abandoned his car in the Wawa parking lot, and the license plate on the vehicle led the police to his residence on Hinsdale Lane. They knocked on the door at approximately 1:15 a.m., but received no response and left. Upon his arrest at 1:45 a.m., following his alleged vandalization of a nearby dollar store, Stanley Martin continuously yelled for someone to contact the FBI or the CIA.

Stanley Martin is currently being held in Burlington County Jail and is facing charges of murder and weapons offenses. It is important to note that these charges are only allegations, and he has not yet been convicted in relation to this case. At the time of his arrest, Martin had duct tape wrapped around his body, connecting a pink iPhone 15 to his inner thigh. This phone matched a replacement phone purchased by his wife the previous day. The police also noted that Martin’s clothing was covered in blood, matching the attire worn by the suspect at the Wawa.

When asked about the presence of his wife’s license in his sock, Stanley Martin reportedly responded, “That’s evidence.” Furthermore, when questioned about Deirdra Martin’s life, he allegedly replied, “Nope,” before admitting to the police that he had killed her. Following his confession, the police returned to the Martins’ home at approximately 2:20 a.m. to conduct a well-being check. Numerous other messages, written in spray paint of various colors, were found throughout the house, with themes related to “aliens,” “Chinese,” the “FBI,” and the “CIA.” These messages were described as being similar in nature to the messages that witnesses had heard Stanley Martin say and write during his episodes.
