Having previously pleaded not guilty, Pelfrey’s upcoming 8:30 a.m. hearing will determine if he maintains his plea or changes it, leading to the assignment of a trial date.

Last year, Pelfrey was indicted on six charges which include aggravated murder, murder, felonious assault, tampering with evidence, and theft.

According to prosecutors, Pelfrey is accused of killing his father, Dewayne Pelfrey, on the day after Thanksgiving at their residence on West Main Street.

Initially, investigators believed that the 60-year-old man had died of natural causes when they found him unresponsive on November 24.

However, after conducting interviews with relatives and witnesses, it was revealed that Pelfrey’s son had confessed to the crime and provided detailed information leading up to his father’s death, as indicated in court records.

In a significant development, Zane Pelfrey, a resident of Batavia, is bracing himself for a courtroom appearance at the Clermont County courthouse on Wednesday. The hearing aims to address the allegations surrounding his father’s untimely demise.

Having previously entered a plea of not guilty, Pelfrey’s appearance at the 8:30 a.m. hearing will determine if he maintains his plea or decides to alter it, thus prompting the court to establish a trial date. This pivotal moment in the legal proceedings is expected to shed light on the future direction of the case.

The charges against Pelfrey were filed last year, encompassing a total of six grave offenses, including aggravated murder, murder, felonious assault, tampering with evidence, and theft. These indictments underscore the severity of the crimes he stands accused of.

According to the prosecution, Pelfrey is alleged to have taken his father’s life on the day following the Thanksgiving holiday. The tragic incident occurred within the confines of their family home, situated on West Main Street. The motive behind the alleged act remains undisclosed at this stage.

Initially, law enforcement officials who discovered the lifeless body of Dewayne Pelfrey believed that his passing was attributable to natural causes. However, following extensive investigations, including interviews with family members and eyewitnesses, the authorities were able to identify the accused as the perpetrator.
