On January 22, 2024, at approximately 11:45 am, Valdosta Police Officers swiftly responded to reports from concerned citizens residing in the 2300 block of Frederick Place. The callers informed the Emergency Services (E911) that unidentified individuals in a silver vehicle had discharged firearms, targeting multiple houses and a vehicle.

Shortly after the initial 911 call, another citizen contacted E911 to report the sighting of his stolen silver Kia Optima near Woodlawn Drive and Barack Obama Boulevard. The victim had reported the theft of his vehicle the day before.

During the incident, detectives spotted the stolen Kia within the vicinity of Vallotton Park. As they attempted to intercept the vehicle, the three occupants hastily fled, causing the car to roll into nearby bushes. Following a brief foot chase, with the valuable assistance of the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office, all three individuals were located, apprehended, and subsequently identified as Coreion Flucas, a 17-year-old male, a 16-year-old male juvenile, and a 14-year-old male juvenile.

Through meticulous examination of evidence collected from the crime scenes, law enforcement officers and detectives determined that the stolen Kia was indeed the same vehicle observed during the shooting spree targeting residences on Frederick Place.

All three suspects, Flucas and the two juveniles, face multiple charges, including:

  • Aggravated assault (felony)
  • Possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony (felony)
  • Criminal damage to property (felony)
  • Theft by receiving stolen property (felony)
  • Possession of a firearm by a minor (misdemeanor)
  • Discharging a firearm from the roadway (misdemeanor)
  • Obstruction of a law enforcement officer (misdemeanor)

Flucas has been transported to the Lowndes County Jail, while the two juvenile offenders have been detained at Regional Youth Detention Centers.

The investigation into this case remains ongoing, and further charges are anticipated.

Valdosta Police Department Chief Leslie Manahan stated, “This was a rapidly evolving situation, and the exceptional teamwork between our officers, detectives, and the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office swiftly led to the apprehension of these three offenders. Their reckless acts of firing firearms towards residential areas in broad daylight demonstrated a complete disregard for human life. We are incredibly fortunate that no serious injuries or fatalities occurred.”
