Woman Arrested After Leading Police Chase with Children in Car

MORENO VALLEY, CA — A woman who led a police chase — with children in the car — across two Riverside County freeways was apprehended and taken into custody on Wednesday. Additionally, a man who allegedly attempted to aid her escape was issued a citation, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

Highway Chaos Unfolds

The alleged mayhem unfolded around 12:10 p.m. on Tuesday when deputies from the Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station responded to a call about a female trespasser loitering in a business parking lot on the 23000 block of Sunnymead Boulevard. The woman, later identified as 26-year-old Adriana Sandoval from Riverside, refused to leave and became uncooperative upon the deputies’ arrival. In a reckless act, she quickly fled the scene in a silver Chevrolet sedan, with two young children in the backseat, nearly colliding with a deputy during her escape.

A dramatic police chase ensued as Sandoval accelerated west on state Route 60 and then proceeded onto northbound Interstate 215. During the pursuit, Sandoval reportedly struck multiple innocent vehicles in her path, endangering the lives of other motorists on the road.

The chase ultimately came to an end on northbound I-215, just east of Blaine Street in Riverside. However, instead of surrendering, Sandoval barricaded herself inside the Chevy and disregarded the law enforcement’s commands, further escalating the situation.

Unidentified Driver Attempts to Aid Escape

Adding to the chaos, a separate driver, identified later as 24-year-old Johnathan Roldan from Riverside, began driving east in the westbound lanes of I-215 in an apparent attempt to prevent Sandoval’s arrest. The relationship between Roldan and Sandoval remains unclear.

The authorities swiftly apprehended Roldan, but the focus remained on the standoff with Sandoval. Negotiations with her continued for nearly 20 minutes until law enforcement successfully removed her from the Chevy and took her into custody. Thankfully, the children in the vehicle were unharmed and placed under protective custody.

Temporary Freeway Closure

The law enforcement operation necessitated the closure of I-215 north, east of Blaine Street, for approximately 30 minutes. This closure caused disruption to traffic flow in the area as authorities worked to safely resolve the situation.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the freeway havoc caused by Sandoval and Roldan, according to the sheriff’s department.

Charges and Arrest

Sandoval is currently being held at Banning’s Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility on several charges. These charges include suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon upon a peace officer, reckless evading, child endangerment, and resisting a peace officer. Her bail has been set at $100,000, as stated in jail records.

Roldan, on the other hand, was cited and subsequently released. He faces charges of obstructing an investigation, reckless driving, and driving without a license, all of which are considered misdemeanors.
