27-Year-Old Malone Man Arrested After Two Police Pursuits

MALONE, N.Y. (WWTI) – A 27-year-old resident of Malone is facing multiple charges after allegedly leading authorities on two separate police pursuits.

On January 19, at approximately 2:45 p.m., Troopers from the New York State Police (NYSP) responded to a stolen vehicle complaint at Maplefields, located on East Main Street in the village of Malone. The investigation revealed that a 2017 Chevrolet Equinox had been stolen from Maplefields, prompting NYSP members and the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department to initiate a high-speed pursuit.

The pursuit resulted in multiple vehicles being wrecked in the city of Plattsburgh. The driver of the stolen vehicle was identified as Kyle Shearer and was subsequently handed over to the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department. Shearer was arrested, arraigned, and released on his own recognizance.

On January 21, at around 4:30 p.m., state police were notified about a red, white, and blue 1999 Ford F250 that had been reported stolen from Tractor Supply on State Route 11, in the town of Malone. Troopers managed to locate the stolen vehicle and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. However, the driver of the vehicle failed to comply, leading the State Police on another high-speed pursuit. The pursuit continued through the village of Malone.

During the pursuit, the driver of the stolen truck collided with a light pole and a fire hydrant. The pursuit finally came to an end when the truck crashed into a memorial at the corner of Elm Street and State Route 11 in the village of Malone. The driver was identified as Kyle Shearer once again.

Shearer was immediately arrested and transported to the New York State Police headquarters in Malone for further processing. He is now facing multiple charges, including grand larceny in the third and fourth degrees, first-degree reckless driving, fourth-degree criminal mischief, third-degree fleeing an officer in a motor vehicle, and driving while intoxicated. Shearer was arraigned in the Town of Malone Court and subsequently remanded to Franklin County.

The New York State Police received assistance from the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department and the Malone Village Police Department during the course of these incidents.
